As local comic book stores (LCS) face uncertain challenges amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Marvel Comics artist Stephen Segovia and his colleagues are offering free sketches to customers who have purchased at least P1500 worth of items from LCSs.

“They’ve been helping us artists for many years and I think it’s time to give back to them kahit in a small way,” Segovia posted on Facebook.

A niche market, comic book stores have temporarily closed since the Luzon enhanced community quarantine took effect on March 17. Not long after, Diamond Comic Distributors, the exclusive distributor of Marvel, DC and Image Comics, halted shipping new books until further notice. LCSs like Comic Odyssey and Planet X Comics are making their existing inventory available via shipping apps.

The first 80 people who can provide an image of their receipts from any comic book store will get a free sketch. As of posting, Segovia, and fellow artists Michael Sta. Maria and Geebo Vigonte have contributed sketches to the initiative to help boost sales of LCSs.
